Sylvain Mazas was born in 1980 in Chambéry, France. While studying illustration in Paris and Strasbourg, he moves to Berlin to finish his studies in graphic design at the Kunsthochschule Berlin-Weißensee. Between 2007 and 2011, Sylvain spends a lot of time in Beirut improving his Arabic language skills and researching Arabic type, using his expertise at LucasFonts as a dedicated right-to-left specialist until 2014. Since then he works as a freelancer, mainly as author, illustrator, graphic designer and type designer with a focus on Arabic type.
